Sarah Gawens, (Westminster, MD)
Born in Maryland in 1988, Sarah discovered her creative passion drawing graphite and pen/ink portraiture in high school circa 2004 and pursued her art studies as a Fine Arts major at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD where her skills evolved to acrylic and oil paintings. Though she finished her degree in 2015, Sarah still continues seeking opportunities to learn new techniques, including a three month art internship in Florence, Italy and a landscape painting workshop in Molndal, Sweden in 2016. Sarah's love for the outdoors and travelling are reflected in much of her plein air pieces and still-lifes. Though she started out her art career with portrait commissions from reference photos, Sarah prefers to work from life as she considers it the best method of emulating the true essence of the subject when capturing a moment in time onto canvas or wood panel.
