The 2018 Jeffrey J. Plum Legacy in the Arts Award was presented to Joan Henderson Hodous, artist, arts advocate, and supporter of the Maryland Center for the Arts.
The Jeffrey J. Plum Legacy in the Arts award is an award given in memory of Jeffrey Plum, local attorney, actor and singer, whose passion and patronage for the arts contributed so much to the lives of others and the Maryland Center for the Arts.
A longtime resident of Harford County, Joan is at home in the world and as a traveler of many countries and an unabashed student of culture, people and the arts. She has worn many hats during her 83 years of life: teacher, painter, poet, photographer, gallery owner and business woman, newspaper columnist, activist, wife and mother. Through these many roles, and on her many travels she has shared her art, and her heart widely. She has exhibited her paintings internationally and nationally, including several one-woman shows several of which were benefits for the Maryland Center for the Arts. Joan continues to paint and looks forward to exhibiting in the future galleries at the Maryland Center for the Arts in a show of her 23 large scale barns of Harford County.
Joan is an inspiration to the community at large for her unwavering commitment to improving the status of people, excelling in the arts and supporting the Maryland Center for the Arts to build a central place where the arts can be shared as part of life together.
