Officially-approved drawings of the Maryland Center for the Arts
Phase 1 of the Maryland Center for the Arts' project is the multi-purpose arts center (first yellow building pictured on the lower right side of the site plan) to provide quality versatile space to host performances, presentations, art exhibitions, music/choral concerts, plays/musicals, dance, educational arts workshops, banquets, and more. The multi-purpose arts center will have flexible seating arrangements to accommodate up to 400. The Phase 1 parking lot will be located next to the Phase 1 multi-purpose arts center.
Phase 2 of the Maryland Center for the Arts' project is the 500+ seat amphitheater, with an additional 500 in lawn seating to host performances, concerts, community festivals, and public events. Phases 3 and 4 will include the educational buildings, located on each side of the amphitheater on the site plan, to provide classrooms, studios, galleries, and multi-purpose spaces for educational programs in the arts for all ages (such as dance, music, theater, visual art, etc.). The additional parking lot on the left side of the site will be built with Phases 2-4: the amphitheater and educational buildings. |

The Bear Legacy Adventure Trail will be back!!!
The estate of Emily Bayless Graham gifted 41 acres of land, along South Tollgate Road, Wheel Rd, and Route 24 for the specific purpose of building an arts center for the community. Only 6 acres of the 42 will be developed for the arts campus, leaving 36 acres remaining for The Bear Legacy Adventure Trail. The trail will remain complementing the arts campus once developed. However, the trails will be temporarily closed, for the public’s safety, to begin preparing for the development of the small portion of the property earmarked for the Maryland Center for the Arts campus. Large equipment will be on the site so it will not be safe for hiking during this time. We hope this phase will move quickly and we apologize for the inconvenience.
We will protect the remaining 36 undeveloped acres so that the community can continue to enjoy the beautiful property in the future.
We are so happy that the estate of Emily Bayless Graham left this gift to Harford County and the arts. If they had not, the land would likely be developed much differently. We’re proud that we are developing only a small portion of the property for an arts campus while preserving the Bear Legacy Trail for Harford County residents for decades to come.
