Dr. Jacalyn Beam, Awards and Quick Draw Juror

Jacalyn Beam is an impressionist painter whose work is based on the practice of painting outdoors - known as plein air. Her paintings are nationally recognized and collected for their historical and visual appeal.  “Her rich palette and sensitive depictions of places are a winning combination that will reward lingering to appreciate the details" (Chamblis, Chester Co Press)

Jacalyn is a member of the American Impressionist Society (AIS), Oil Painters of America (OPA), Washington Society of Landscape Painters (WSLP) and a signature member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA).  Her paintings merited awards in multiple juried art shows across the country and in 2021 she was selected to represent Delaware in the “America the Beautiful” show.

Jacalyn’s works are in galleries across the United States from CA to DE.  She is included in books, magazines, and other documents including 100 Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters , Brandywine Valley Reflections, HUNT, Art Collector Magazine, Western Art Collector, Plein Air Magazine, and Outdoor Painter to name a few.  Jacalyn's paintings are slated for inclusion as illustrations in a new book (2023) highlighting southern PA.

Jacalyn earned the BS, MEd, A.G.S., and EdD degrees. Upon earning her doctorate, she received the Presidential Award from Wilmington University. The Presidential Award  is the University’s most prestigious award given to one student from among all disciplines who best represents and exhibits outstanding leadership, respect for others, and the University's mission and values.  In 2020 the Governor appointed Dr. Beam to the Delaware State Arts Council. The Council is the advisory body to the Delaware Division of the Arts and advises on matters of arts policy, funding and other issues relevant to the arts.

Jacalyn’s other leadership roles include serving on the  Board of Directors for MAPAPA and the CFHS, participating on the National Coalition of the Arts Council for core standards, and serving as a specialist and writer for the Delaware Committee for Performing Arts Education. Jacalyn teaches both private and group lessons and is an invited instructor for Rehoboth Art League, the Howard Pyle Studio, and the Delaware Valley Division of the Arts in Pennsylvania among others.
