October 6 - 12, 2019
2019 Harford Plein Air Festival

October 11-12, 2019
Gallery Sale and Awards Ceremony
Bel Air Armory
37 N. Main St  Bel Air, MD 21014

Plein air artists capture real life in the moment by painting on-site and "out in the open air".  "Plein air" is a French term for "plain air" or "open air"; meaning to be outdoors.  Eligible artists should have experience in completing a painting outdoors from start to finish, painting the scene from life, not photographs.

Thirty plein air artists will be selected by artist juror, Stewart White, through an online application system that will be posted to our Harford Plein Air Festival page in January 2019 for artists (age 18 and older) to upload examples of their plein air paintings.

The chosen artists will be required to paint new, original, plein air paintings in Harford County between October 6-12, 2019, and will   have the chance to win cash awards for best plein air painting in categories such as: "Best Nocturne", "Best Vanishing Landscape" and "Best Architecture", among other awards.

The festival will culminate in a public gallery sale and awards ceremony at Bel Air Armory, October 11-12, 2019.   Details will be posted on the Harford Plein Air Festival page.

Community artists of all ages are invited to paint in the outdoor Quick Draw Competition on Office St. in Bel Air, Maryland, from 8am-1pm, October 12, 2019, to compete for cash awards.  Details will be posted on the Quick Draw Competition page.

Business sponsorships are available which provides businesses with unique advertising opportunities including the opportunity to present special awards at the Harford Plein Air Artist Awards Ceremony at the Bel Air Armory on Friday, October 11, 2019, 6-9pm.
